How a friend and fond memories led me to Indonesia
A new chapter in Bali – Why I decided to do a clinical internship abroad
After completing an unforgettable nursing internship with travel4med in Sri Lanka two years ago, I knew I wanted to go abroad again—this time for a clinical internship. When a friend suggested exploring the new location in Bali together, I didn't have to think twice. I knew from experience that everything is reliably organized at travel4med and that you don't have to worry about recognition and formalities.
Everything is easy thanks to travel4med
This is how I organized and prepared for my trip
The preparations went smoothly, as usual. travel4med provided support with visas, packing lists, and coordination with other medical students via a WhatsApp group. The personal contact was particularly helpful: the team was always available to answer questions or resolve problems—friendly, competent, and solution-oriented.
Arrive and feel at home in the villa in Ubud
First impression, tropical feeling, and a perfect start
After landing in Denpasar, we were picked up by a driver and taken to our accommodation in Ubud. We were impressed by the tropical green landscape even on the way there. The villa itself was modern, with a large pool and many communal areas—a perfect place to quickly settle in. We were welcomed with fresh coconuts and snacks—a great start!
My daily routine at the hospital in Bali
Traditional medicine, new perspectives, and intercultural learning
Every morning, a driver took us to the hospital, where we were assigned to different departments depending on our specialization. There were up to three people in each ward, which made it easier to exchange ideas. The Balinese doctors were very open and happy to share their knowledge with us. The traditional medicine department was particularly exciting, with its cleansing rituals and massages.
You can also see how religion shapes the healthcare system: on important Hindu or Muslim holidays, many patients do not show up for their appointments – a cultural aspect that is hardly known in Germany.
Discover Bali: Leisure, Nature & Adventure
From waterfalls to volcanic peaks – our weekends in paradise
After the hospital, we often went to Ubud to eat or shop—or just hang out by the pool. We used the weekends for group excursions: waterfalls, rice terraces, tea plantations, beach days, and even a trip to Komodo National Park, where we could snorkel with manta rays. One highlight was definitely the volcano hike to Mount Batur at sunrise.
Bali is incredibly diverse—between tourist spots and unspoiled nature, you can experience the real Indonesia.
Villa vibes & new friendships
Why the local community was so special
When we arrived, there were over 20 other students at the villa. It didn't take long for us to get to know each other—at breakfast, by the pool, or on excursions. Some of those friendships still exist today, spread across Germany. The community was friendly, open, and inspiring.
My conclusion after a 4-week clinical internship in Bali
Why I would do it again in a heartbeat—and recommend it to everyone
This clinical internship was an enriching experience for me in every way—professionally, personally, and culturally. I can only recommend that everyone take the plunge and go abroad. travel4med creates the perfect framework for this: safe, professional, and with heart.
I would do it again anytime!
